Don Walters is a capable business professional with over 35 years of entrepreneurial business management experience in different aspects of design, construction, development and other contracting related areas. He currently serves as the Director of Construction for SDB, inc.’s Northern Arizona office. He is responsible for implementing projects from conception to contract execution to project completion and close out. He oversees all aspects of SDB’s construction projects in Northern Arizona, including financial reporting, estimating, scheduling, staffing and equipment procurement. His expertise in multiple construction delivery methods, including Design Build, Construction Management at Risk and Job Order Contracting, make him a highly trusted leader in a very diverse range of construction projects. His focus is to ensure customer success through strategic relationships within the design and construction industry while delivering unsurpassed quality that has resulted in loyal repeat clients.
Prior to re-joining SDB, inc., Don founded, developed and operated an Industrial, Commercial and Residential construction and development company for over 15 years. Under Don’s leadership, his employees successfully completed a variety of projects, including a major expansion of the Bellemont Wisconsin Tissue plant, Woodlands Village Shopping Center, the Joy Cone Manufacturing plant and Foxboro Ranch Estates subdivision and Clubhouse. For Don, teamwork is much more than a buzz word. It’s all about becoming a strategic partner with clients and colleagues, thereby building synergistic teams by aligning their core values through collaboration. This practiced behavior has served him well throughout the years and is demonstrated by his long-standing extensive personal and professional network.
Don is or has been an active member of several community organizations, including the Flagstaff 40 Executive Board, The Citizens Advisory Committee for the New Flagstaff Regional Plan, the Coconino County Comprehensive Plan, the Economic Collaborative of Northern Arizona (ECoNA) Advisory Board, Life Director and twice Chairman of the Northern Arizona Building Association (2004 and 2012), Coconino County Planning and Zoning Commissioner, Flagstaff Regional Plan Citizens Advisor Committee (CAC), Institute of Environmental Sciences/Senior Member and Project Management Institute/Senior Project Manager. Don was also the founder and majority owner of Arizona Forest Restoration Products (AZFRP) which endeavored for seven years in the building of the 4FRI Collaboration in the pursuit of landscape scale forest restoration to return our forests to a fire adapted ecology.
Don’s education includes Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott where he majored in Aeronautical Science with a minor in Engineering and Business Management from Maricopa Community College.
Don has been married over 30 years and has three children. He is a native northern Arizonan whose family’s direct ancestry can be traced back to Arizona’s earliest pioneering families whom have been in Northern Arizona continuously since the early 1860s.
